This Bank Holiday weekend saw us launch a new idea here for us at Royal Villa in Salthill. We’re calling it East Meets West and its really a blend of 2 things – our dual identities of Irish and Chinese and those two cuisines. We wanted to do something new and exciting for our regulars and also to let people who were here for the first time know that we’re not just your run of the mill Chinese!
Our Special Menu for the weekend:
– Fresh summer salad of prawns, seasonal leaves, orange, lime , strawberries and balsamic reduction
A very popular starter on the night I think we really nailed it here for the perfect salad for the sunny weekend that we had. There was more than a few chilled glasses of Sauvignon enjoyed with this!
-Irish Bacon & Cabbage Rolls, served with champ potato, parsley sauce & chives
People were cynical at first but they were pretty quickly converted once they tried these rolls with everyone agreeing that they were very tasty indeed!
– Pan Fried Seabass on a bed of tagliatelle, tossed in crayfish sauce, served in a crispy nest with prawn wontons.
Our most popular dish of the weekend, so much so that we completely sold out on Friday night. We made a delicious crayfish sauce with some beautiful shells from the good folks in Marys Seafood in Ballybane. A very moreish fish I didn’t see a single piece left on any of the plates I cleared!
Roasted char sui Pork rack cutlet served with black pudding and potato gratin, hoi sin sauce, turnip and ginger puree.
My personal favourite as I feel it really encompasses things that are both very Chinese and very Irish with pork being such a popular meat in both our cultures. This was refined, elegant and most of all delicious. Believe me until you’ve tried a turnip and ginger puree you have no idea how good it can be.
I found myself in very early at work on Monday as it was such a busy night previously and with a bit of time on my hands decided to go for one more thing and hopped into the kitchen. Taking the summer classic of strawberries and cream I decided to make this:
Its a White Chocolate & Basil Cream with Mascerated Strawberries and Red Wine Sauce. Looking to get some feedback I gave a few portions out to our customers to try and think its safe to say I might just be making this again!
So, that was our initial foray and I have to say we all enjoyed it immensely and I’m glad to say so sid everyone who availed of the menu. Now, if you’ll excuse me we have to go figure out whats on the menu for next weekend!
