What a week its been for Galway. Following on from our phenomenal win for the Culture Capital 2020 Bid we went straight into the Arts Festival and I think the buzz around town for this year was the best we’ve ever had with everyone in a great mood. I know that we had a crazy busy week and it was great to see so many tourists and locals enjoying the festival! We had some really nice specials on this weekend and I was lucky enough to be able to try them all out. So lets start:

5 Hour BBQ Pulled Pork, Naan Bread & Coleslaw

This was one of those great rich, smoky tasting pulled pork dishes that also was incredibly soft and tender. I tried one out on Thursday night when we were doing a trial run for the weekend and I knew we were onto a serious winner for this weekends menu. It was very popular and I could see how we could make this a house favourite!

Prawn & Salmon Fishcake, Sweet Chilli Jelly, Lime Mayo

Not your traditional Thai style fishcake but our own interpretation of it. The texture of the sweet chilli jelly was a great addition to the dish. We sold a lot of specials this weekend and it was close run between this and the pork for a most popular dish.

Penne Pasta, Creamy Curry Scented Sauce, Broccoli & Crispy Duck Breast

I have to be honest, I love our crispy duck and I don’t think theres a single dish that can’t be made better by adding it to it! Also I love my curry scented sauces, so this was a no-brainer for me. And I think people agreed with me because this was very popular all weekend too. I think what was so good about it was that while the sauce itself was very tasty it still wasn’t too strong to overwhelm the nice rich crispy duck. Another to consider for putting on the menu again.

Steamed Hake with Garlic Chorizo Butter & Side Salad

Soft tender hake that’s been steamed to keep its wonderful texture combined with a rich butter with the smoky taste of chorizo. Served with a nice salad this was a great summer dish too.

Mango Coconut Sago Pudding served with Vanilla Ice Cream

This is something very close to home for us. Mango and Sago pudding is a true Hong Kong dessert and one you can get everywhere there, in restaurants and even as street food. When we made a test batch of this and tried a taste it was just like being in HK! A nice light fresh summer dessert that was perfect to finish the weekend specials off with.

Thats all for this weekends menu guys. Hope you all have a great Race Week and we look forward to seeing some of you in afterwards to use some of those winnings on a great Royal Villa meal ๐Ÿ˜‰
